Samsung clarifies what Galaxy AI features will remain free

Samsung confirmed that default Galaxy AI features will remain free indefinitely. This includes tools like Live Translate, Chat Assist, and Circle to Search. The company made this announcement to clear confusion after speculation about paywalls surfaced.

While Samsung did mention the possibility of future charges, it reassured users that no billing would happen during this window. This clarity helps consumers better plan their usage and understand what they’re getting without unexpected fees.

Live Translate and Chat Assist stay free for now

Live Translate, which enables real-time translation during phone calls, and Chat Assist, which helps rewrite messages in different tones or languages, will continue to be free until the end of 2025.

These features rely on on-device processing and cloud AI to deliver results. Samsung emphasized that users will not face restrictions or trial limits while using them within the stated period. After 2025, Samsung may evaluate new pricing strategies, but no decisions have been finalized.

Circle to Search remains free across supported devices

Circle to Search, developed in collaboration with Google, will also stay free for Galaxy users until at least the end of 2025. This tool lets users circle any item on screen to instantly get relevant information without leaving the app.

Samsung bundles it with Galaxy AI and has made it available on newer models like the Galaxy S24 series. Because it enhances general usability and search, Samsung sees it as a foundational feature rather than one to monetize immediately.

Galaxy AI premium plan could launch in 2026

While Samsung has not introduced a paid plan yet, it hinted that some AI features could transition to a subscription model starting in 2026. This aligns with trends across the tech industry, where generative AI often comes with usage-based pricing.

Samsung stated that introducing a premium tier will ensure transparency and give users a clear choice rather than locking previously free tools behind a paywall. For now, all features remain fully unlocked for eligible users.

Eligible Galaxy devices will retain free access

Samsung confirmed that Galaxy AI features will remain free on eligible devices, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and select tablets. These devices meet the performance requirements to run AI tools efficiently.

Samsung has not announced any restrictions or feature degradation based on region or carrier. As long as users own a qualifying device, they will get full access to the current AI toolkit without needing to upgrade or pay during the free period.

On-device AI processing remain a key feature

Some Galaxy AI tools remain free because they use on-device processing, which avoids cloud server costs. Features like Summarize, Translate in Samsung Notes, and Transcribe in the Voice Recorder work without an internet connection.

This not only enhances user privacy but also helps Samsung reduce operating costs. Since there’s no server usage involved, Samsung has less pressure to monetize these tools quickly, which is why they’re included in the free package through 2025.

Samsung’s AI strategy differs from Apple’s approach

Unlike Apple, which is introducing Apple Intelligence features gradually and limiting them to specific premium devices, Samsung has cast a wider net. Galaxy AI is supported across a broader range of devices, and most features are accessible without additional cost for now.

Apple is expected to tie more AI tools to hardware upgrades and iCloud+ subscriptions. Samsung is taking a more inclusive approach early on, possibly to attract users and strengthen its ecosystem before introducing any pricing.

Generative Edit stays free on flagship models

Generative Edit lets users modify and move elements within a photo using AI, and is still free on supported flagship models. This includes capabilities like filling in backgrounds and removing objects.

The feature uses both local processing and Samsung’s cloud servers. While some editing platforms charge for similar AI tools, Samsung has offered this without additional cost. The company may consider charging for heavier server-based processing, but nothing has been finalized.

Samsung Keyboard and Notes AI features are free

AI features built into Samsung Keyboard and Notes, such as writing suggestions, translations, summaries, and meeting notes, are currently offered at no additional cost. These tools boost productivity and rely heavily on Samsung’s on-device LLM and selective cloud-based models.

Since these apps are central to the everyday experience of Galaxy users, Samsung has prioritized keeping them free of charge. They also work seamlessly across devices through Samsung Cloud, and there’s no sign that they’ll be moved to a paid tier before 2026.

Transcribe Assist enhances usability without cost

Transcribe Assist in the Voice Recorder app uses AI to convert speech into written summaries. It can recognize multiple speakers and condense long meetings into bullet points. This is one of Samsung’s most practical AI tools, and it’s included free on newer Galaxy devices.

Because transcription typically requires cloud processing, Samsung may consider placing heavier transcription loads under a premium model eventually. However, this tool remains available for all eligible users without time or length restrictions.

AI tools are built on a hybrid processing model

Samsung’s Galaxy AI features use a hybrid model that blends on-device and cloud-based processing. This allows features to run faster while tapping into powerful server-side models when needed.

For example, image editing may use on-device AI, while translation can rely on cloud resources. This flexible setup is why Samsung can offer many free tools, especially those that don’t require frequent server queries. The hybrid approach also improves reliability and lowers server strain across regions.

Samsung hints at evolving AI service tiers

While Samsung hasn’t detailed a pricing model, it has signaled that Galaxy AI could eventually include different service tiers. These could be based on usage volume, device type, or added functionality. A basic free plan might remain, with premium add-ons for power users.

This would mirror how some cloud storage and productivity tools offer freemium plans. Samsung’s approach allows them to test demand first while gradually introducing paid layers only when there’s proven value and user interest.

Regional access to AI features remains consistent

Unlike some tech services that restrict features based on region, Samsung has made Galaxy AI tools broadly available across markets. Users in the U.S., Europe, South Korea, and other major markets can access the same free tools on compatible devices.

There may be occasional language-specific limitations in features like Live Translate, but overall functionality remains uniform. Samsung’s global rollout reflects its goal of making AI a core part of the Galaxy experience for all users.

Galaxy AI development to expand beyond 2025

Samsung has invested heavily in building AI models and partnering with Google and other firms. It plans to grow its AI feature set beyond 2025 with more advanced tools in photography, productivity, and health tracking.

These upgrades could debut with future Galaxy phones or tablets and may be placed in a premium tier depending on development costs. Samsung’s roadmap includes refining on-device models to reduce server dependency and expand what’s possible without requiring users to pay.

Users won’t be auto-billed without consent

Samsung has clarified that users will be notified in advance if any Galaxy AI features transition to a paid model. No tools will silently move behind a paywall or result in automatic billing. Instead, users can choose to opt in to any future premium plans.

This user-first approach aims to avoid backlash and build trust as Samsung experiments with AI monetization. Users can now enjoy all AI tools that are currently available without cost or obligation.
