Excited to start gaming? You might have skipped a few important PS5 settings, these hidden tweaks can boost performance, free up storage, and even protect your privacy. Many of them are easy to change, but most players never take the time to adjust them.
By making a few small adjustments, you can unlock a better experience with smoother gameplay, improved visuals, and better security. Some settings even help extend your console’s lifespan.

Every time you earn a trophy, your PS5 captures a screenshot. While this might seem useful, these images quickly pile up, eating away at your storage. If you’re not constantly checking your media gallery, you might not even realize how much space they take up.
Turning off auto-captures for trophies will free up room for more games and gameplay clips. Plus, it saves you the hassle of deleting hundreds of unwanted screenshots later.
Head to the Captures and Broadcasts settings, disable auto-captures and enjoy a clutter-free media gallery with more space for what matters.

Manually logging in every time you turn on your PS5 is an unnecessary step, especially if you’re the main user. Thankfully, you can set the console to sign in automatically, getting you into your games faster.
To enable this feature, go to Login Settings and toggle on “Log In to PS5 Automatically.” This way, your console loads directly into your account every time. Just remember, if multiple people use the same console, they’ll need to manually switch profiles before playing.

Your PlayStation Network profile is more public than you might think. By default, friends and even strangers can see what you’re playing, who you’re friends with, and your entire gaming history. If you prefer a more private experience, it’s time to adjust these settings.
Navigate to the Privacy menu to control who can see your real name, friend list, and game activity. You can even limit who can send you friend requests or messages.

Tired of tweaking settings every time you start a new game? Your PS5 allows you to set default preferences for things like difficulty, camera controls, and subtitles. Instead of adjusting them manually in every game, you can set them once and let the system apply them automatically.
Head to Game Presets in your settings to choose your preferred difficulty level, camera inversion, and even whether you want frame rate or graphical fidelity prioritized. This simple tweak saves time and ensures every new game starts just the way you like it.

Your PS5 collects data to improve user experience and provide game recommendations. But if you’d rather not share this information, you can limit what data Sony collects. Most users don’t realize they have control over this setting.
Go to the Privacy menu and disable data collection and personalized ads. This prevents Sony from tracking your play habits for recommendations and marketing.
While data collection is often harmless, turning it off ensures your gaming activity remains private.

Screen tearing and stuttering can ruin an otherwise great gaming experience, that’s where Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) comes in. This feature helps your PS5 match your TV’s refresh rate, eliminating choppy visuals and making gameplay feel smoother.
Go to Video Output settings and set VRR to “Automatic” if you have a compatible TV, this will improve motion clarity and responsiveness. For unsupported games, you can try forcing VRR, but turn it off if you experience flickering.

Some PS5 games support up to 120 frames per second, providing ultra-smooth gameplay. However, this feature isn’t enabled by default. If you have a TV that supports 120Hz, turning it on can make a big difference in how responsive your games feel.
To enable it, go to Video Output settings and switch on 120Hz mode. While not all games support this feature, titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Fortnite, Gran Turismo 7, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition take full advantage of the higher frame rate.

HDR enhances colors and contrast, making games more vibrant, but if not set up correctly, visuals may look too bright or washed out. Run the “Adjust HDR” setup in Video Settings to ensure highlights and shadows appear natural.
If issues persist, check your TV’s “HDMI Deep Color” setting. Games like Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and God of War Ragnarök look stunning with properly calibrated HDR.

OLED TVs deliver incredible picture quality, but they’re more prone to screen burn-in if a static image stays on too long. If you often leave your PS5 idle on the home screen or pause menu, this could become a problem over time.
Enable “Dim Screen While Inactive” in the Screen settings. This will automatically lower brightness after a few minutes of inactivity, reducing the risk of burn-in. It’s a small but important step to keep your OLED display looking great for years to come.

If you hate getting spoiled before you finish a game, your PS5 has a setting just for you. Spoiler Warnings will blur out content that might ruin surprises in certain games.
Go to Saved Data settings and turn on “Warn About Game Spoilers” this feature works in the PlayStation Store and your game hub, helping you avoid plot reveals. While it won’t block everything, it adds an extra layer of protection for story-driven games.

Taking screenshots or recording gameplay should be quick and easy. Your PS5’s Create button has multiple customization options, but the default settings might not suit your needs.
Go to Captures settings and adjust the Create Button shortcuts. You can set it to take screenshots instantly, record longer clips, or even mimic the PS4’s capture method. Personalizing this feature makes capturing your best gaming moments effortless.

If you want your TV to turn on automatically when you power up your PS5, enable HDMI Device Link. This setting lets your console and TV communicate, turning both on or off together.
Head to System settings and turn on “Enable HDMI Device Link”, you may also need to enable HDMI-CEC in your TV’s settings. This small feature makes starting and ending gaming sessions feel seamless.

Want to play your PS5 games on your phone or tablet? Remote Play lets you stream games over Wi-Fi, so you can keep playing even when you’re away from your console.
Enable Remote Play in the System settings and connect your PS5 to your mobile device or computer. This feature is perfect for playing in another room or continuing a game while traveling.

Your DualSense controller has impressive features, but its battery life isn’t the longest. If you often forget to turn it off when you’re not playing, your controller could drain unnecessarily.
Luckily, your PS5 has a setting to automatically power down your controller after a period of inactivity.
Go to Power Saving settings and set “Time Until Controllers Turn Off” to 10, 30, or 60 minutes. This helps conserve battery and ensures your controller is always ready when you need it.
