FarStone retools recovery software
Baltimore-based FarStone Technology Inc., which develops advanced system recovery solutions for PCs and Networks, is releasing its recovery software in a new version specifically designed for ISPs, Internet portals, broadband service providers, and other application service providers.
Called RestoreIT xSP, the recovery software provides an easy and effective solution for restoring data and files lost or damaged due to computer errors, viruses or other common mishaps.
Visto teams with Nextel
Nextel Communications Inc. and Reston, Va.-based Visto Corp. launched Mobile Email Enhanced, the first e-mail service for Java-enabled mobile phones with full synchronization and a PDA-like feel. Mobile Email Enhanced pairs ConstantSync, Visto’s wireless synchronization technology, with an on-the-phone application to provide real-time access to email, contact lists, and calendars.
Push e-mail allows over-the-air email delivery to the phone without any interaction from the user. Nextel Mobile Email Enhanced works in tandem with Microsoft Outlook, IBM Lotus Notes and most Internet e-mail accounts such as EarthlinkSM and Yahoo!.
Merino to head Cornet division
Springfield, Va.-based Video Convergence, the video surveillance products and integration services division of Cornet Technology Inc., appointed Charles (Chuck) Merino to vice president of business development for its Video Convergence division.
Merino previously was with Econolite Control Products Inc. and MasTec North America Inc.
SCORE teams with EasiMedia
The Society of Retired Executives (SCORE) Association Counselors to America’s Small Business and EasiMedia Inc., have formed an alliance to increase small-business awareness about SCORE counseling and services. SCORE will provide entrepreneurs with free copies of EasiMedia’s iEdition CD-ROM through SCORE chapters nationwide.
As part of the content on the iEdition CD-ROM, SCORE included how-to articles on business planning, marketing and financing. There are links to SCORE’s Small Business Web Site, www.score.org, Ask SCORE online counseling and Find SCORE, which allows entrepreneurs to locate a local SCORE chapter.
iEdition also provides links to other valuable small business resources and offers a more refined capability to search and access small business information online. More than half a million copies of iEdition will be distributed in 2005.
CTI unveils Optim Systems division
Springfield, Va.-based Cornet Technology Inc., a manufacturing and professional services company, formed a new division called Optim Systems to focus on providing end-to-end audio, video, and Web conferencing products to government and commercial customers.
The new division will design, install and support a full range of online, real-time, interactive, and multipoint conferencing solutions to improve the quality of remote business communications.
Venkatakrishnan “Mani” Lakshminarayanan will lead the new Optim Systems division. He joined CTI in 1998, most recently managing the company’s APIS loan reader program for the U.S. Customs Service.
Webmail.us Launches Webmail Lite
Blacksburg, Va.-based Webmail.us, a provider of e-mail hosting services to small and geographically dispersed businesses, released the beta version of Webmail Lite, a free Web-based aggregator that allows users to set up and manage third-party e-mail accounts and RSS feeds through an extension of the company’s Web mail interface.
Webmail Lite gives e-mail users constant access to their email, RSS feeds, and address book data, but lack a professional Web mail interface.
